0:31The referendum passed 51 to 48. [music] A constitutional change now sealed by the state. The General Assembly gets to redraw the line. A new congressional [music] map taking effect in due time. The current delegation stands at 6 to [music] 5. Democrats leading.
0:46Republicans trying to survive. But analysts are saying when the new maps are done, Democrats could hold 10 seats.
0:51Republicans just one.
0:53>> This is the news coming [music] straight to you. Virginia has spoken and the vote came through. Four seats on [music] the county and the house could flip.
1:01Democrats are sailing on a brand new ship. [music] This is the news. No opinion here. Just facts on the down coming loud and clear. Virginia redistricted [music] in the story of the night. Four Democratic seats now coming in the sight. Now let's give you context so you understand. This didn't just happen [music] without a larger plan. Back in 2025 across the nation, Trump pushed for [music] redistricting without hesitation. He called on Texas [singing] and other GOP states to redraw [music] the maps and redistrict 2020 place.
1:30Republicans gained seats through that effort and push. Democrats took notes and decided to rush. Virginia became the answer. The counter move Democrats said watch us. We're getting [music] in the groove. They drafted new maps before the vote [singing] was even done waiting on the people to confirm [music] had begun. The legislature already had the maps prepared. If yes won the vote, the new districts would be shared applying to the districts 2026 8 and 10 before the standard census process kicks back in again. This is the news coming straight [music] to you. Virginia has spoken.
2:03>> [music] [music] [music] >> Former President Obama recorded a message clear. He said vote yes Virginia, [music] the whole country can hear. He said this is bigger than just your Commonwealth alone. The balance of [music] the Congress is what's really being shown. On the other side, Scott Presler made his case. He called [music] it unconstitutional right to the base.
2:33He said vote no Virginia, stop this plan today. But when the balance closed, the yes had WON THE DAY. FOX News went on air and reported straight. AP is calling it 50 to 48. They called it a gerrymander WHEN THEY BROADCAST LIVE.
2:46Democrats call it fairness, balance in a draw. Now legal challenges could still come [music] ahead. Some Republicans are saying this isn't over. They said the courts may [singing] yet weigh in on what the maps contain. But for now the folks stand and Democrats remain in position to redraw [music] ahead of midterms seeing with national house control being the primary reason.
3:04Turnout was historic. [music] 48% came through of registered voters across the state. That's huge. This was [music] not a regular Tuesday quiet election day.
